In a contest for a comic book, bankrolled by the Kremlin, Russian children were asked to draw images of Ukrainians being killed in the war with Russia.

The results of the contest 'Heroes of Russian Victory' were released by the Presidential Grants Foundation this week, noting that three of the stories included in the final comic book focus on the war against Ukraine.

Further, the contest was said to draw a link between the events of World War II and the current war between Russia and Ukraine. Thus, cartoons from both chapters were woven together in the final comic book.

Images from the contest showed drawings of Russian troops hunting supposed Ukrainian “Nazis” before blowing them up, declaring, "We can’t let the Ukrainian Nazis get away."

A separate story which featured in the comic book depicted a public execution, with the victim covered in blood. However, it was not clear if the said image depicted a scene from World War II or the Russia-Ukraine war.

Meanwhile, when questioned about the contest, the organiser told The Daily Beast that the particular theme for the comic book was chosen because the topic (Russia-Ukraine war) was extremely popular among the youth.

He further said the idea behind the theme was to preserve historical memories.
